Due to the way full text is supplied for Cochrane Library material, EndNote may struggle with finding the full text from the DOI.

However, most Cochrane reviews are available full-text through PubMed Central (PMC), so Cochrane reviews imported to EndNote from Medline (or PubMed) should link through to the PubMed copy.

If you can, export your Cochrane records from Medline.

If you have already exported some records from Cochrane Library or another database, you will need to do one of three things:

  • attach the full text manually, or
  • delete the record and replace it with a record from Medline, then use the Find Full Text tool, or
  • run a reference update to find the links to the PubMed Central copies, then use the Find Full Text tool.

The following instructions are for updating the references using EndNote's Find Reference Updates function.

Select the references you wish to update, and go to References > Find Reference Updates. EndNote will go through your list and offer you each record to look at one at a time.

You need to have the PMID (e.g., 33368213) in the "Accession Number" field and the URL from PubMed (e.g., https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/33368213) in your URL field. As long as these two fields match the PubMed record, you should be able to use EndNote's Find Full Text function.

If you are happy to accept the entire PubMed record, you can just hit "Update All Fields" for each record. If you would like to select which fields to update, hit Edit Reference, and then you can copy and paste the contents of the fields you want.

Then hit "Save and Continue".

You will need to do this for each record downloaded from Cochrane Library.
