The CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Governance seek to recognise and account for Indigenous Peoples rights and interests within the open data movement. In order to ensure that FAIR access does not ignore the power differentials and historical contexts of Indigenous research, the CARE Principles require consideration of the collective benefit of open data; Indigenous authority to control data; responsibility to share how data are used; and the ethics of making Indigenous Peoples’ rights and wellbeing the primary concern of research and research data.
