A predatory publisher typically exploits the open access publishing model by charging authors article processing charges but not following good academic publishing practices. Predatory publishers may provide little or no peer review, undertake little or no copyediting, or even lie about its performance and where it is indexed. In some cases, publishing in such journals can damage the perceived validity of an article and the research it contains.
