This problem may occur for a number of reasons. Please try the following options to resolve the problem.

  1. Restart your computer. 
  2. On a PC, check the Task Manager for a process called emailhelper86.exe. If it is running then select it and hit "end process"
  3. This problem may occur because your library is stored in a read only location. Try moving the file (and the associated data folder) to a new location.
  4. Check you do not have your library stored on a network drive or on a cloud drive, such as iCloud, Dropbox or Google Drive. If it is stored in one of these locations move it to a location on your computer.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall EndNote (note this will not affect the library, but you should make a habit of keeping a back-up copy anyway).
