Access to One Search

Alumni can continue to use One Search to search for resources. As an alumni member, your library barcode number (on your card) and PIN allows you to log into One Search, which will enable you to save searches and add results to your list of favourites.

You will not have full-text access to all of our subscribed resources, but you will be able to use One Search to access any Open Access resources we link to through One Search.

Open Access

A large number of the resources used at JCU are Open Access resources, which you can find using One Search without needing an active JCU account.

Open Access resources are freely available, scholarly sources including journal articles and books.

Just run your search in our search box, as you normally would, and when you see the results, pick the "Open Access" option in the Filters down the side of your screen. Hit "Remember all Filters" to keep the Open Access filter applied while you continue to search.

In the Refine section in the Filters pane there are usually at least three options: Available Online, Peer-reviewed Journals, and Open Access. Select the Open Access option to find freely available resources     When you have active filters chosen and you wish to keep them throughout the session, find the "Remember all filters" option under "Active filters" and click it.

Alternative Access Options

Google Scholar often provides links to free full text content.

The State Library of Queensland also has access to databases and membership is free. All Australian states and territories will provide similar access through your local public library membership.

National Library of Australia provides access to subscription eresources to registered members (membership is free and available to Australian residents).
