While often technically possible, it is not recommended that students complete online exams in the library. JCU computers do have:

  • Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor
  • Most JCU student computers do have webcams, a requirement of some online exams;

Be aware that:

  • Some online exams require downloading software that is not installed on JCU student computers in the library
  • It is also not possible to download extra software onto these computers
  • It may be possible to reserve a student bookable space in the library or elsewhere on campus
  • The library cannot guarantee an ideal exam environment with regards to noise, interruption or Internet connection.
  • Library Bookable Study Rooms do not contain JCU computers and require you to BYOD.

If you choose to sit your exam on campus, please keep in mind:

  • Respondus is not available on all university computers (this includes library computers), nor can software be downloaded onto them individually. Find out from your lecturer/or college what rooms are suitable for using Respondus.
  • You will be required to complete a Respondus Monitor Environment Check. Failure to provide a clear Environment Check video may lead to an Academic Misconduct report.
  • Using a JCU public space may put you in a position where the Respondus Monitor flags suspicious behaviour during an exam (e.g. foot traffic is detected in the background). These flags will then appear in the video replay for the relevant assessor to review, and they will determine if the footage demonstrates academic dishonesty or not.
  • Preparation guidelines for Online Exams on campus.
  • Most student exam spaces cannot be booked so it is recommended that you look at more than one option and check the spaces out in plenty of time before your exam.
