There are a couple of ways to place requests.

1. Using One Search

Digital copies of journal articles and book chapters not held by the Library can be requested through One Search using our RapidILL service. You will need to be logged in to One Search to make requests.

  • Search for your topic or title in One Search
  • Turn on Add results beyond the library's collection filter.

  • Click on the title of the article or book chapter

  • Scroll down until you see Request From Another Institution. If you are not logged in already, you will see a prompt to log in here.

If you are not logged in, under "Request from Another Institution" you will see a box with the text "Please sign in to check if there are any request options" and a link to log in. Click on that link to log in.

  • When you are logged in, click on Request this item

  • Check all details are filled (One Search will auto-fill the request form, and your JCU email account will be included)

  • Click Send Request

Your article or chapter will be sent to you via your JCU email address.

The cost of this service is covered by the Library and free to JCU account holders.

Note: This request option cannot be used if there is a record of the item the JCU Library collection. Use the next process if required.

2. Using the Resource Request form in One Search

This method can be used for articles or chapters not found in the process above, or items already in our collection e.g. a book on loan, or gaps in our journal collections.

For best results, use the library Guides, and citation databases to locate journal articles. For books, use Trove or Worldcat.org.

  • Log in to One Search
  • Click on ellipses at the top right of the screen
  • Select Request an article or chapter
  • Complete the form (adding the ISSN or ISBN will bring quicker delivery)
  • Send request.

Note: under copyright, only one article or chapter can be requested from the same journal issue or book.

If you require a whole book or thesis, please place your request using the form found under our Interlibrary loans service for staff and students.

Retrieving your requests

  • Check your JCU email (your item should arrive within 24-48 hours)
    • Don't forget to check the clutter and junk folders

OR

  • Log into One Search and check under Library Account > My Requests. You can select Download if the file is available.

Note: You have the option to download the copy for up to 5 times. Copies will only be available from the server for 30 days. If you need further assistance, please contact us at collections@jcu-au.libanswers.com

3. Physical loans

Other items (e.g. whole books) can be requested for a physical loan via our Interlibrary Loans Service where costs, timeframes and instructions are listed.
