The librarians have identified the most useful databases for each subject area and have grouped them together on Library Guides. Just go to the Guide for your subject or discipline.

Some databases are very subject specific, while others can cover a broad range of disciplines. You should try to make yourself familiar with more than one database.

We also have a full list of databases so you can go straight to the database you want if you know its name, or browse by Subject area.

  1. What's an index?

  2. An index is a type of database that lists details about journal articles (such as descriptors and keywords). You can have databases that provide abstracts, databases that provide indexes, databases that provide full text, and databases that provide all of these. You can also have databases that contain material other than journal articles. Most of our resources are linked to each other in such a way that you probably won't need to know the difference - just look for the FindIt button if there isn't a link to full text.
